In 2022, the Swiss ether market increased by 26% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, the total consumption indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for ether exports from Switzerland, accounting for a 29% share of total exports. Moreover, ether exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Turkey amounted to +43.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-3.6% per year) and France (+8.8% per year).

Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ether imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of ether imports to Switzerland, together accounting for 91% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +12.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and China ($X) were the largest ether suppliers to Switzerland, with a combined 75% share of total imports.
