Germany (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from Switzerland, with a 69% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with a 3.8% share.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for household articles and toilet articles of plastics exports from Switzerland, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany totaled -2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (-5.2% per year) and Italy (-2.1% per year).

The average plastic household articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. After two years of growth, purchases abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -6.7% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic household articles imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic household articles to Switzerland, accounting for a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household articles imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to +5.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+1.0% per year) and Italy (-4.4% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest plastic household articles suppliers to Switzerland, together accounting for 65% of total imports. France, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, India and Luxembourg lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +24.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average plastic household articles import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 19%.
