For the third consecutive year, the Swiss skates market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 0.1% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. Skates consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the amount of ice skates and roller skates exported from Switzerland shrank markedly to X tons, which is down by -31.1% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 66%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, skates imports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
