The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -37.0% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 64%. The exports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw slight growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X units), the Philippines (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main destinations of food manufacture machinery exports from Switzerland, with a combined 48% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +76.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink increased by 50% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, imports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 55%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Italy (X units) constituted the largest supplier of food manufacture machinery to Switzerland, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, food manufacture machinery imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X units), threefold. France (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +14.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+5.9% per year) and France (+5.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average food manufacture machinery import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -14.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous year.
