The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, motor boat exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

The UK (X units), Germany (X units) and Poland (X units) were the main destinations of motor boat exports from Switzerland, with a combined 71% share of total exports. Greece, Italy, Serbia, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +122.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for motor boats and motor yachts, for pleasure or sports exports from Switzerland, comprising 54% of total exports. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of motor boats and motor yachts, for pleasure or sports increased by 3.7% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, motor boat imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X units) constituted the largest motor boat supplier to Switzerland, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, motor boat imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X units), threefold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States totaled -3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-1.3% per year) and Germany (-7.1% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), Italy ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest motor boat suppliers to Switzerland, with a combined 58% share of total imports. Poland, Germany, the UK, Lithuania, Finland and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
Among the main suppliers, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +30.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average motor boat import price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 21% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the price for the United States ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
