In 2022, the Swiss packaging materials market increased by 19% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a perceptible descent. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 5.9%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, packaging materials imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of packaging materials to Switzerland, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, packaging materials imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), threefold.
