Italy (X tons), China (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main destinations of paper and paperboard exports from Switzerland, together accounting for 55% of total exports. Germany, Turkey, South Korea, Croatia, Poland, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +175.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for paper and paperboard exported from Switzerland were China ($X), Italy ($X) and Greece ($X), with a combined 58% share of total exports. In 2022, the average paper and paperboard export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of paper and paperboard (creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated) imported into Switzerland soared to X tons, jumping by 30% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 39%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, paper and paperboard imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of paper and paperboard imports to Switzerland, together accounting for 61% of total imports. France, Sweden, Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +154.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest paper and paperboard suppliers to Switzerland were Ukraine ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports. Sweden, France, the Czech Republic, the UK, Austria and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
