In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for sauces and seasonings exports from Switzerland, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany stood at +1.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-0.6% per year) and Italy (+2.3% per year).

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Switzerland
In 2021, purchases abroad of sauces and seasonings increased by 11% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 33%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sauce and seasoning imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +61.8% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of sauce and seasoning imports to Switzerland, together comprising 61% of total imports. France, Poland, Thailand, Austria and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
