Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X tons) was the main destination for cattle hide and skin exports from Switzerland, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, cattle hide and skin exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), more than tenfold.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of raw hides and skins of cattle, when their volume decreased by -74.7% to X tons. Overall, imports faced a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 1,087%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
