Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for shelled hazelnut exports from Switzerland, with a 85% share of total exports. Moreover, shelled hazelnut exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), more than tenfold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey stood at +24.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+9.1% per year) and France (-10.3% per year).

In 2021, the average shelled hazelnut export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -14.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Germany ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

After three years of decline, purchases abroad of shelled hazelnuts increased by 4.7% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, shelled hazelnut imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 38%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest shelled hazelnut supplier to Switzerland, with a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, shelled hazelnut imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), more than tenfold. Georgia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.1% share.
