In 2021, the Swiss silicone market increased by 56% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after six years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Austria (X tons) was the main destination for silicone exports from Switzerland, accounting for a 35% share of total exports. Moreover, silicone exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), twofold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 16% share.

In value terms, silicone imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of silicone to Switzerland, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, silicone imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), fivefold.
