Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for soft drink exports from Switzerland, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +2.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-1.3% per year) and France (+2.1% per year).

The average soft drink export price stood at $X per litre in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 2% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the amount of soft drinks imported into Switzerland rose notably to X litres, picking up by 7.6% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 20%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, soft drink imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +57.6% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X litres), Italy (X litres) and Austria (X litres) were the main suppliers of soft drink imports to Switzerland, with a combined 60% share of total imports. France, Poland, the Netherlands, Sweden and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Sweden (with a CAGR of +68.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Austria ($X) constituted the largest soft drink suppliers to Switzerland, together accounting for 61% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +68.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, increasing by 8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per litre), while the price for France ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
