Rwanda (X kg) was the main destination for crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports from Tanzania, accounting for a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Burundi (X kg), with a 0.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Rwanda amounted to -20.8%.

In value terms, Rwanda ($X) remains the key foreign market for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread exports from Tanzania, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burundi ($X), with a 0.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Rwanda amounted to -10.9%.

The average export price for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 81% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burundi ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Tanzania

In 2022, approx. X tons of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread were imported into Tanzania; dropping by -53.1% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 156%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 463% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Kenya (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports to Tanzania, with a combined 83% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Kenya (with a CAGR of +33.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 120%.
