Dairy Machinery Market Size in Tanzania

The Tanzanian dairy machinery market surged to $X in 2022, with an increase of 510% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption recorded a significant expansion. Dairy machinery consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after eight years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of dairy machinery, when their volume decreased by -20% to X units. Overall, exports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 67%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, dairy machinery exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 186%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Zimbabwe (X units) was the main destination for dairy machinery exports from Tanzania, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, dairy machinery exports to Zimbabwe exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Zambia (X units), threefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Zimbabwe was relatively modest.

In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for dairy machinery exports from Tanzania, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a 0.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Zimbabwe was relatively modest.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average dairy machinery export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -90.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Zambia stood at $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+41.9%).

Dairy Machinery Imports

Imports into Tanzania

Dairy machinery imports into Tanzania surged to X units in 2022, rising by 550% against 2021. In general, imports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 2,163%. Imports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dairy machinery imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 5,643%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

China (X units), the UK (X units) and India (X units) were the main suppliers of dairy machinery imports to Tanzania, together comprising 68% of total imports. Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese), South Africa and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +76.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and India ($X) were the largest dairy machinery suppliers to Tanzania, with a combined 66% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese), the UK, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

The UK, with a CAGR of +157.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average dairy machinery import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -35.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 349%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while the price for the UK ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+51.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
