South Africa (X tons), Comoros (X tons) and Germany (X kg) were the main destinations of festive articles exports from Tanzania, together accounting for 56% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Zambia, the United States, the UK, India, France, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +444.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Germany ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest markets for festive articles exported from Tanzania worldwide, with a combined 59% share of total exports. The UK, Zambia, Belgium, France, Comoros, India, the United Arab Emirates, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +239.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average festive articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -46.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 21%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Comoros ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zambia (+26.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Tanzania
In 2022, the amount of festive or carnival articles imported into Tanzania shrank sharply to X tons, waning by -80.9% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 438%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, festive articles imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 409% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of festive articles to Tanzania, with a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, festive articles imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+35.5% per year) and Japan (0.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of festive or carnival articles to Tanzania, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 8.5% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled -4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+31.8% per year) and India (+3.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average festive articles import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -23.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
