Graphic papers consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Tanzania
In 2022, the amount of graphic papers exported from Tanzania skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 111% on 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a slight decrease. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, graphic papers exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a remarkable increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Uganda (X tons) was the main destination for graphic papers exports from Tanzania, with a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, graphic papers exports to Uganda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kenya (X tons), twofold. South Sudan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uganda amounted to +56.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (-4.9% per year) and South Sudan (+101.2% per year).
In value terms, Kenya ($X), Uganda ($X) and South Sudan ($X) were the largest markets for graphic papers exported from Tanzania worldwide, with a combined 90% share of total exports.
South Sudan, with a CAGR of +65.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average graphic papers export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -13.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 45%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burundi ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+64.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Tanzania
In 2022, the amount of graphic papers imported into Tanzania skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +37.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, graphic papers imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), China (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the main suppliers of graphic papers imports to Tanzania, together accounting for 47% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +70.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest graphic papers suppliers to Tanzania were India ($X), China ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. South Africa, Norway, South Korea, Russia, Sweden, Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, Turkey, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
Norway, with a CAGR of +66.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average graphic papers import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
