Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 4,326% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, groundnuts exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports faced a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 6,648% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo (X kg) was the main destination for groundnuts exports from Tanzania, accounting for a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, groundnuts exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Botswana (X kg), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Botswana (+59.4% per year) and Comoros (0.0% per year).

In terms of the main countries of destination, Botswana, with a CAGR of +93.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average groundnuts export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -13.7% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, groundnuts export price increased by +77.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 52%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Comoros ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+22.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Tanzania
In 2022, purchases abroad of ground-nut (in-shell) increased by 279% to X kg, rising for the seventh year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a sharp descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 1,264%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, groundnuts imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 1,431% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
