Exports by Country

Uganda (X tons) was the main destination for odoriferous substance mixture exports from Tanzania, accounting for a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, odoriferous substance mixture exports to Uganda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Oman (X tons), twofold. Rwanda (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uganda totaled +58.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+650,900.0% per year) and Rwanda (+78.6% per year).

In value terms, Uganda ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for mixtures of odoriferous substances and their preparations exports from Tanzania, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Rwanda ($X), with a 0.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 0.4% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+46.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, overseas purchases of mixtures of odoriferous substances and their preparations decreased by -20.5% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 84%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, odoriferous substance mixture imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +70.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest odoriferous substance mixture supplier to Tanzania, with a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, odoriferous substance mixture imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ireland (X tons), twofold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +23.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ireland (+18.1% per year) and Italy (+388.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest odoriferous substance mixture suppliers to Tanzania were Swaziland ($X), Germany ($X) and Ireland ($X), together comprising 73% of total imports. South Africa, Italy, India, China and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Italy, with a CAGR of +349.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average odoriferous substance mixture import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 37% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Swaziland (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
