The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 359% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Rwanda (X square meters) was the main destination for exports of non-PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings from Tanzania, accounting for a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of non-PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings to Rwanda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uganda (X square meters), twofold. Kenya, with a CAGR of +204.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+41.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Tanzania
In 2022, overseas purchases of non-PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings increased by 27% to X square meters, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of non-PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X square meters), India (X square meters) and Thailand (X square meters) were the main suppliers of imports of non-PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings to Tanzania, together comprising 85% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Kenya and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +117.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per square meter), while the price for Thailand ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
