Nucleic Acid Market Size in Tanzania

The Tanzanian nucleic acid market shrank significantly to $X in 2022, waning by -24.4% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, saw a tangible increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of nucleic acids and their salts, when their volume decreased by -81.8% to X kg. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 241%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X kg, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, nucleic acid exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 208% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X kg) was the main destination for nucleic acid exports from Tanzania, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, nucleic acid exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (X kg), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands totaled +17.5%.

In value terms, the largest markets for nucleic acid exported from Tanzania were South Korea ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Canada ($X), with a combined 67% share of total exports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of -5.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Export Prices by Country

The average nucleic acid export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 417% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Nucleic Acid Imports

Imports into Tanzania

In 2022, imports of nucleic acids and their salts into Tanzania dropped to X tons, with a decrease of -14.9% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 290%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nucleic acid imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 269% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest nucleic acid supplier to Tanzania, accounting for a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, nucleic acid imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), twofold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+9.5% per year) and Belgium (+49.5% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Thailand ($X) and Belgium ($X) were the largest nucleic acid suppliers to Tanzania, with a combined 53% share of total imports.

Belgium, with a CAGR of +24.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average nucleic acid import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for Swaziland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+37.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
