Other Chemical Products Market Size in Tanzania

In 2022, the Tanzanian other chemical products market increased by 15% to $X, rising for the fourth year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a dramatic descent. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Tanzania

In 2022, the amount of other chemical products exported from Tanzania soared to X tons, with an increase of 49% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 1,766%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other chemical products exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 2,035% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

China (X tons), Uganda (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) were the main destinations of other chemical products exports from Tanzania, together accounting for 81% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Uganda (with a CAGR of +98.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for other chemical products exports from Tanzania, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 27% share of total exports. It was followed by Uganda, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to China totaled +43.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+70.1% per year) and Uganda (+78.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average other chemical products export price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Tanzania

In 2022, overseas purchases of other chemical products increased by 28% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 162%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, other chemical products imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 62%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest other chemical products supplier to Tanzania, accounting for a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, other chemical products imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. South Africa (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India totaled -10.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-25.3% per year) and South Africa (-14.9% per year).

In value terms, South Africa ($X), the UK ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the largest other chemical products suppliers to Tanzania, with a combined 61% share of total imports. Uganda, China, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, France, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of -18.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

The average other chemical products import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -21.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price faced a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 25%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
