Plastic Self-Adhesive Plate Market Size in Tanzania

In value terms, plastic self-adhesive plate exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 436%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Malawi (X tons) was the main destination for plastic self-adhesive plate exports from Tanzania, accounting for a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic self-adhesive plate exports to Malawi exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burundi (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Ethiopia (X tons), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malawi stood at +37.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (+115.5% per year) and Ethiopia (0.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for plastic self-adhesive plate exported from Tanzania were Malawi ($X), Burundi ($X) and Uganda ($X), with a combined 83% share of total exports.

Burundi, with a CAGR of +110.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plastic self-adhesive plate export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -33.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 153%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ethiopia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, the amount of plastic self-adhesive plates, sheets and other flat shapes imported into Tanzania reduced rapidly to X tons, falling by -50.9% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic self-adhesive plate imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic self-adhesive plate to Tanzania, accounting for a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic self-adhesive plate imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fivefold. Kenya (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+10.7% per year) and Kenya (-2.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastic self-adhesive plates, sheets and other flat shapes to Tanzania, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Kenya, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+15.6% per year) and Kenya (+6.7% per year).

The average plastic self-adhesive plate import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 6.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
