Relay Market Size in Tanzania

Zambia (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Zimbabwe (X units) were the main destinations of relay exports from Tanzania, with a combined 80% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +57.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the key foreign market for relays exports from Tanzania, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 16% share.

The average relay export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -82.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 87%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Zimbabwe ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+25.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Relay Imports

Imports into Tanzania

In 2022, relay imports into Tanzania skyrocketed to X units, picking up by 59% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 63%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, relay imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of relay to Tanzania, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, relay imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X units), threefold. Turkey (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.2% share.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of relays to Tanzania, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +40.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+5.2% per year) and Spain (+19.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average relay import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -20.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
