Net Fabric Market Size in Tanzania

The Tanzanian net fabric market declined to $X in 2022, falling by -10.5% against the previous year. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kenya (X tons) was the main destination for net fabric exports from Tanzania, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, net fabric exports to Kenya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Rwanda (X kg), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kenya stood at -28.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Rwanda (+10.3% per year) and Uganda (-39.6% per year).

In value terms, Rwanda ($X) remains the key foreign market for tulles and other net fabrics exports from Tanzania, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Rwanda totaled +23.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (-39.1% per year) and Uganda (-31.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average net fabric export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 76% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Tanzania

In 2022, the amount of tulles and other net fabrics imported into Tanzania dropped rapidly to X tons, which is down by -82.7% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 587%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, net fabric imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 124% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main net fabric supplier to Tanzania, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, net fabric imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +3.8%.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tulles and other net fabrics to Tanzania, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average net fabric import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -46.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 484% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
