Overall, imports saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, truck and bus tyre imports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest truck and bus tyre supplier to Tanzania, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, truck and bus tyre imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X units), more than tenfold. Turkey (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.5% share.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tyres for buses or lorries to Tanzania, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 3.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+2.1% per year) and Turkey (+17.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average truck and bus tyre import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 8.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from South Africa ($X per unit) and Turkey ($X per unit), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per unit) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
