Vaccine Market Size in Tanzania

The Tanzanian vaccine market reduced markedly to $X in 2022, which is down by -29.3% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, enjoyed prominent growth. Vaccine consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Tanzania

Vaccine exports from Tanzania soared to X tons in 2022, growing by 395% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12,213% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vaccine exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 10,373% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Comoros (X tons) was the main destination for vaccine exports from Tanzania, with a 54% share of total exports. Moreover, vaccine exports to Comoros exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malawi (X kg), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Zambia (X kg), with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Comoros totaled +67.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malawi (+36.8% per year) and Zambia (+36.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for vaccine exported from Tanzania were Comoros ($X), Zambia ($X) and Kenya ($X), together accounting for 91% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Comoros, with a CAGR of +56.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average vaccine export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -35.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malawi ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Comoros (-6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Vaccine Imports

Imports into Tanzania

In 2022, vaccine imports into Tanzania declined remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of -28.1% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 151% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vaccine imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 136%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

India (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of vaccine imports to Tanzania, with a combined 57% share of total imports. The United States, Singapore, Denmark and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +161.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), the United States ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest vaccine suppliers to Tanzania, with a combined 41% share of total imports. India, Denmark, Singapore and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Singapore, with a CAGR of +162.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average vaccine import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vaccine import price increased by +81.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 53% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by American Samoa (+41.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
