Vermouth Market Size in Tanzania

In 2022, the Tanzanian vermouth market increased by 76% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a deep contraction. Vermouth consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Tanzania

In 2022, overseas shipments of vermouth increased by 3% to X litres, rising for the second consecutive year after seven years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vermouth exports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 16%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Burundi (X litres) was the main destination for vermouth exports from Tanzania, with a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, vermouth exports to Burundi exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X litres), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Burundi totaled +34.7%.

In value terms, Burundi ($X) remains the key foreign market for vermouth exports from Tanzania, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Burundi stood at +47.0%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average vermouth export price amounted to $X per litre, shrinking by -2.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burundi ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per litre.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+9.1%).

Vermouth Imports

Imports into Tanzania

In 2022, overseas purchases of vermouth increased by 64% to X litres, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 219%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vermouth imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 193% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of vermouth to Tanzania, accounting for a 78% share of total imports. Moreover, vermouth imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mauritius (X litres), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X litres), with a 0.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy stood at -5.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mauritius (+715.8% per year) and France (-33.7% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vermouth to Tanzania, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with an 8.5% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mauritius (+350.0% per year) and France (-25.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average vermouth import price stood at $X per litre in 2022, declining by -5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 81% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per litre), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+20.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
