Moreover, wheat and meslin flour exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burundi (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to -13.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (-6.5% per year) and China (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for wheat and meslin flour exports from Tanzania, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Burundi ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Malawi, with a 2.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to -12.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (-3.5% per year) and Malawi (+193.3% per year).

In 2022, the average wheat and meslin flour export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 48% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. Imports into Tanzania
For the third consecutive year, Tanzania recorded decline in supplies from abroad of wheat and meslin flour, which decreased by -99.1% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports faced a precipitous decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 119% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wheat and meslin flour imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a precipitous decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 160% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. Kenya (X tons), India (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of wheat and meslin flour imports to Tanzania, with a combined 95% share of total imports. Turkey and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.3%.
