Aluminium Bar Market Size in Thailand

The Thai aluminium bar market reduced modestly to $X in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In 2021, the amount of aluminium bars, rods and profiles exported from Thailand skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 99% compared with 2020 figures. In general, exports saw a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aluminium bar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main destinations of aluminium bar exports from Thailand, together comprising 45% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, India, Canada, the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the United States and Australia, which together accounted for a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +585.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for aluminium bar exported from Thailand were Japan ($X), Vietnam ($X) and China ($X), together accounting for 45% of total exports. India, Poland, Canada, the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the United States and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +524.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium bar export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -36.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 5.3%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, the amount of aluminium bars, rods and profiles imported into Thailand expanded remarkably to X tons, picking up by 9.5% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 48%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, aluminium bar imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest aluminium bar supplier to Thailand, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, aluminium bar imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), more than tenfold. South Korea (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +20.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+5.0% per year) and South Korea (+11.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium bars, rods and profiles to Thailand, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +19.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+0.7% per year) and South Korea (+11.0% per year).

In 2021, the average aluminium bar import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
