Breakfast Cereal Market Size in Thailand
In 2021, the Thai breakfast cereal market decreased by -0.6% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, breakfast cereal production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 38%. Breakfast cereal production peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Exports from Thailand
For the tenth year in a row, Thailand recorded growth in overseas shipments of breakfast cereals, which increased by 8.3% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 18%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, breakfast cereal exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Australia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of breakfast cereal exports from Thailand, together comprising 51% of total exports. These countries were followed by China, Germany, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and Hong Kong SAR, which together accounted for a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +53.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Australia ($X), the United States ($X) and China ($X) were the largest markets for breakfast cereal exported from Thailand worldwide, together accounting for 42% of total exports. Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Philippines, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam and New Zealand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +59.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average breakfast cereal export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Thailand
In 2021, overseas purchases of breakfast cereals increased by 3.7% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, breakfast cereal imports stood at $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest breakfast cereal supplier to Thailand, accounting for a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, breakfast cereal imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), twofold. The Philippines (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+8.6% per year) and the Philippines (-6.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of breakfast cereal to Thailand, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+8.3% per year) and the Philippines (-8.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average breakfast cereal import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 4% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
