In 2022, cabbage exports from Thailand surged to X tons, with an increase of 178% compared with the previous year. In general, exports showed a prominent increase. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cabbage exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 253% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) was the main destination for cabbage exports from Thailand, accounting for a 53% share of total exports. Moreover, cabbage exports to Taiwan (Chinese) exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cambodia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Myanmar (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to +22.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+149.0% per year) and Myanmar (+50.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for cabbage exported from Thailand were Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), Cambodia ($X) and Myanmar ($X), together accounting for 88% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +128.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average cabbage export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 102% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Thailand
In 2022, supplies from abroad of cabbage and other brassicas increased by 21% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, cabbage imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest cabbage supplier to Thailand, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, cabbage imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Myanmar (X tons), sevenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +14.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Myanmar (+272.8% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (-5.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cabbage and other brassicas to Thailand, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +15.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lao People's Democratic Republic (-4.5% per year) and Myanmar (+275.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average cabbage import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 2.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
