Copper Chain Market Size in Thailand

In 2022, the Thai copper chain market decreased by -13.9% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a pronounced expansion. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 371% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper chain exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 165% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and Cameroon (X tons) were the main destinations of copper chain exports from Thailand, with a combined 70% share of total exports. India, Hong Kong SAR, New Zealand and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +81.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for copper chain exported from Thailand were India ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 43% share of total exports.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +1,839.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average copper chain export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 34% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 89%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cameroon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+1,050.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of chain and parts thereof of copper decreased by 99.9% to X kg in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 24,938%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, copper chain imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports faced a dramatic contraction.
