In 2021, imports of couscous into Thailand rose slightly to X tons, surging by 3.4% on the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, couscous imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of couscous to Thailand, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, couscous imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Singapore (X tons), with a 6.2% share.

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of couscous to Thailand, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+10.0% per year) and Australia (-10.5% per year).

In 2021, the average couscous import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 18%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+31.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
