Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, expansible polystyrene exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 160%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Vietnam (X tons) was the main destination for expansible polystyrene exports from Thailand, accounting for a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, expansible polystyrene exports to Vietnam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Philippines (X tons), fourfold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Vietnam totaled +44.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Philippines (+7.7% per year) and Indonesia (+59.3% per year).

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the key foreign market for expansible polystyrene in primary forms exports from Thailand, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 15% share.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
