The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +67.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The United States (X units), Japan (X units) and Australia (X units) were the main destinations of non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports from Thailand, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), Vietnam, Malaysia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Hong Kong SAR, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of +127.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) exports from Thailand, comprising 40% of total exports. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, China (X units) was the main non-combined refrigerator-freezer supplier to Thailand, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X units), more than tenfold. Indonesia (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +46.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-11.1% per year) and Indonesia (+14.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) to Thailand, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 7.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 1.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +37.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-7.8% per year) and Indonesia (+3.6% per year).
