For the third year in a row, the Thai industrial robot market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 37% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption posted a tangible increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Industrial Robot Exports
Exports from Thailand
In 2021, industrial robot exports from Thailand contracted remarkably to X units, reducing by -46% compared with 2020. Overall, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 468% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, industrial robot exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 299%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China (X units), India (X units) and Indonesia (X units) were the main destinations of industrial robot exports from Thailand, together accounting for 53% of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, Vietnam, Denmark, Malaysia, Germany, Cambodia, France, Singapore, Japan and Lao People's Democratic Republic, which together accounted for a further 41%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +82.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for industrial robot exported from Thailand worldwide, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Australia, Vietnam, Denmark, Singapore, France, Malaysia, Japan, Cambodia, Germany and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
France, with a CAGR of +59.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average industrial robot export price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Thailand
In 2021, imports of industrial robots for multiple uses into Thailand rose rapidly to X units, with an increase of 13% against 2020. In general, imports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, industrial robot imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China (X units), Japan (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main suppliers of industrial robot imports to Thailand, with a combined 93% share of total imports. Singapore and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 4%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +40.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest industrial robot suppliers to Thailand, with a combined 87% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 7.4%.
Among the main suppliers, Denmark, with a CAGR of +145.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average industrial robot import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
