Lead Market Size in Thailand

The Thai lead market contracted to $X in 2022, waning by -7.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a slight curtailment. Lead consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Thailand

In 2022, shipments abroad of lead increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lead exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 49%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons) was the main destination for lead exports from Thailand, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, lead exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tons), fourfold. Malaysia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

The average lead export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 29%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. Imports into Thailand

In 2022, imports of lead into Thailand dropped dramatically to X tons, which is down by -19.8% against 2021. Overall, imports showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 20%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lead imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons), Japan (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of lead imports to Thailand, together accounting for 64% of total imports. South Korea, Australia, Cambodia and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +776.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
