The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plain postcard exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports faced a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for plain postcard exports from Thailand, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, plain postcard exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X kg), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Switzerland (X kg), with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to -36.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-21.9% per year) and Switzerland (+11.2% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for plain postcard exported from Thailand were Japan ($X), the United States ($X) and Switzerland ($X), with a combined 89% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, Vietnam, Italy and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.6%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +53.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average plain postcard export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 292% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed significant growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+55.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Thailand
In 2021, the amount of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards imported into Thailand skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 43% compared with 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plain postcard imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 246%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plain postcard to Thailand, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, plain postcard imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X kg), sixfold. Italy (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -2.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+10.5% per year) and Italy (+35.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest plain postcard suppliers to Thailand were China ($X), the United States ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, the UK, South Korea, Canada, Japan and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Among the main suppliers, Canada, with a CAGR of +117.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average plain postcard import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -10.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 114%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
