After two years of decline, shipments abroad of magnesite increased by 543,660% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. Myanmar (X tons) was the main destination for magnesite exports from Thailand, with a 92% share of total exports. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, magnesite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest magnesite supplier to Thailand, with a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, magnesite imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Greece (X tons), with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +10.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-7.3% per year) and Greece (+52.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of magnesite to Thailand, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Greece ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +13.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+43.6% per year) and Italy (-3.8% per year).

The average magnesite import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -18.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 67%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
