In 2021, the Thai market for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates decreased by 0% to less than $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

For the third year in a row, Thailand recorded decline in shipments abroad of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates, which decreased by -56.7% to X kg in 2019. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 7,164%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2019, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports contracted to $X in 2019. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 2,846% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2019, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Philippines (X kg) was the main destination for manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from Thailand, accounting for a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports to the Philippines exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lao People's Democratic Republic (X kg), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Bangladesh (X kg), with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Philippines amounted to +27.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lao People's Democratic Republic (-12.8% per year) and Bangladesh (-2.0% per year).

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) remains the key foreign market for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from Thailand, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bangladesh ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Philippines amounted to -2.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (-5.2% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (-7.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the average export price for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates amounted to $X per ton, surging by 121% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 204%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2019 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2019, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+91.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Thailand

In 2020, imports of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates into Thailand contracted slightly to X tons, reducing by -3.6% against 2019 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last eight years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports decreased by -17.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2020, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports fell dramatically to less than $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 44%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
