The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for camel and other animal meat exports from Thailand, accounting for a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Myanmar (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hong Kong SAR amounted to -7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+5.6% per year) and Myanmar (+59.9% per year).
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), the United States ($X) and Japan ($X) were the largest markets for camel and other animal meat exported from Thailand worldwide, together accounting for 94% of total exports. Myanmar and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.4%.
Among the main countries of destination, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +41.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average export price for meat of camels and other animals amounted to $X per ton, surging by 15% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 25%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Thailand
In 2022, imports of meat of camels and other animals into Thailand surged to X tons, growing by 118% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 201% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 229%. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Myanmar (X tons) constituted the largest camel and other animal meat supplier to Thailand, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat imports from Myanmar exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, New Zealand (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Myanmar amounted to +4,506.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (-9.9% per year) and Vietnam (+19.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest camel and other animal meat suppliers to Thailand were New Zealand ($X), Myanmar ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for 99.9% of total imports.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +4,262.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for meat of camels and other animals stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -42.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 242%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
