Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-cane molasses exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for non-cane molasses exports from Thailand, accounting for a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, non-cane molasses exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cambodia (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Malaysia stood at -1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+16.3% per year) and China (+15.4% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for molasses (excluding cane molasses) exports from Thailand, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cambodia ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Malaysia stood at -1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cambodia (+2.6% per year) and China (-8.6% per year).

Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Overall, imports, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-cane molasses imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 92% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) was the main non-cane molasses supplier to Thailand, accounting for a approx. 99% share of total imports.
