Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 25%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-cellular polypropylene film exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main destinations of non-cellular polypropylene film exports from Thailand, together comprising 35% of total exports. Japan, India, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, China and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 53%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +56.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip exports from Thailand, comprising 24% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +39.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-10.5% per year) and Vietnam (-5.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average non-cellular polypropylene film export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 28%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+19.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Thailand
For the eighth year in a row, Thailand recorded growth in supplies from abroad of non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip, which increased by 20% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, non-cellular polypropylene film imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +86.5% against 2013 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-cellular polypropylene film imports to Thailand, together accounting for 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Japan, the United States, Australia, Belgium, India, the UK and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Australia (with a CAGR of +25.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the largest non-cellular polypropylene film suppliers to Thailand, together accounting for 57% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +18.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average non-cellular polypropylene film import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 8.1%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
