Overall, exports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 169%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, graphite non-electrical articles exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of graphite non-electrical articles exports from Thailand, together comprising 75% of total exports. Qatar, Italy, Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +185.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for graphite non-electrical articles exports from Thailand, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to China amounted to +92.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+76.2% per year) and Japan (-2.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average graphite non-electrical articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lao People's Democratic Republic (-1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Thailand
In 2021, purchases abroad of non-electrical articles of graphite or other carbon was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 37%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, graphite non-electrical articles imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 47%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Japan (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of graphite non-electrical articles imports to Thailand, with a combined 69% share of total imports. Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +88.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of graphite non-electrical articles to Thailand, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Japan was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+15.9% per year) and the United States (-4.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average graphite non-electrical articles import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -4.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 7.9%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
