Market Size for Optical Fibers and Bundles in Thailand
The Thai optical fiber and bundle market fell to $X in 2022, which is down by -12.4% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +46.7% against 2020 indices. Optical fiber and bundle consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, optical fiber and bundle production shrank sharply to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Optical fiber and bundle exports from Thailand expanded sharply to X tons in 2022, increasing by 7.6% on 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 91%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle exports plummeted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 160% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) was the main destination for optical fiber and bundle exports from Thailand, with a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, optical fiber and bundle exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Costa Rica (X tons), threefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +5.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Costa Rica (+72.0% per year) and Japan (+13.1% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for optical fibers and bundles exports from Thailand, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Costa Rica, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Japan stood at +17.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (-11.7% per year) and Costa Rica (+6.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average optical fiber and bundle export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -44.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 94% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+28.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Optical Fibers and Bundles
Imports into Thailand
In 2022, overseas purchases of optical fibers and bundles decreased by -3% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 106%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, optical fiber and bundle imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 107% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of optical fiber and bundle to Thailand, accounting for a 94% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States (X tons), with a 1.6% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was held by Japan (X tons), with a 0.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +51.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+0.3% per year) and Japan (-11.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of optical fibers and bundles to Thailand, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +39.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+4.3% per year) and the United States (+10.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average optical fiber and bundle import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 56%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+17.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
