Plastic Reservoir Market Size in Thailand

The Thai plastic reservoir market fell to $X in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a slight setback. Plastic reservoir consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic reservoir production contracted modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Plastic reservoir production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Thailand

In 2022, overseas shipments of plastic reservoirs, tanks and vats decreased by -29.7% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, plastic reservoir exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 67%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic reservoir exports from Thailand, together comprising 78% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +46.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), Myanmar ($X) and Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest markets for plastic reservoir exported from Thailand worldwide, with a combined 72% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +38.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average plastic reservoir export price amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 22% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Thailand

In 2022, plastic reservoir imports into Thailand reduced notably to X tons, which is down by -39.2% on 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 106% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic reservoir imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 269% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Japan (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic reservoir imports to Thailand, with a combined 85% share of total imports. China and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +126.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastic reservoirs, tanks and vats to Thailand, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Malaysia amounted to +15.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+8.8% per year) and Japan (+6.2% per year).

Based on 2022 figures, plastic reservoir import price increased by +122.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 79%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
