In 2021, overseas purchases of reclaimed rubber increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), China (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main suppliers of reclaimed rubber imports to Thailand, together accounting for 90% of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia and the United States, which together accounted for a further 8.2%.
