Overall, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 406%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 639%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main supplier of sheepskin and lambskin to Thailand, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, sheepskin and lambskin imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Myanmar (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Saudi Arabia stood at -36.0%.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) to Thailand, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Myanmar ($X), with a 3.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Saudi Arabia stood at -8.7%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sheepskin and lambskin import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -6.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 282% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Myanmar amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+42.6%).
