In value terms, sorbitol exports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 26%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Japan (X tons) was the main destination for sorbitol exports from Thailand, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, sorbitol exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Japan was relatively modest.
In value terms, Japan ($X) remains the key foreign market for sorbitol (excluding d-glucitol) exports from Thailand, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Japan was relatively modest.
Export Prices by Country
The average sorbitol export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+0.0%).

Imports into Thailand
In 2021, supplies from abroad of sorbitol (excluding d-glucitol) decreased by -23.2% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 59%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, sorbitol imports fell modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest sorbitol supplier to Thailand, with a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, sorbitol imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), eightfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +15.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-0.2% per year) and France (-24.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sorbitol (excluding d-glucitol) to Thailand, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +15.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-1.2% per year) and France (-25.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average sorbitol import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild contraction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
