Tomato Market Size in Thailand

The Thai tomato market rose slightly to $X in 2021, picking up by 4.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) was the main destination for tomato exports from Thailand, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, tomato exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X tons), twofold. Malaysia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 22% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lao People's Democratic Republic stood at +83.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+2.2% per year) and Malaysia (+47.8% per year).

In value terms, Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the largest markets for tomato exported from Thailand worldwide, with a combined 97% share of total exports.

In value terms, tomato imports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 54%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main supplier of tomato to Thailand, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, tomato imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Myanmar (X tons), more than tenfold.
